The PENSÃO is an autonomous artistic residency programme housed at DELLI, the design department of Lusófona University in Lisbon.

It aims to provide a space for research, reflection, creation, experimentation, dialogue and exchange, giving promising artists and designers the opportunity to freely develop their thinking and work in a stimulating and diverse environment.

It establishes a direct relationship between the DELLI community and the outside world, through collaborative projects between designers, artists and educational and cultural institutions. The programme has a flexible and experimental structure, in which students, teachers and guests can participate with artistic, design and research projects.

Based on the vision that art and design play an essential role in an open and innovative society, and that artistic practices are a privileged vehicle for effective learning, PENSÃO hosts the development of autonomous, self-initiated projects where residents can deepen their practices and explore new territories, both within and outside the field of art and design.

We will challenge you to question your positions, deepen your practices, explore new territories and become part of a new community. It's a unique opportunity to live a transformative experience for your thinking and work as a designer or artist, and a contribution to nurturing a highly diverse artistic community.

Each resident proposes a project and the respective curatorial team, made up of an individual and/or an institution, which supervises the project. The mediation team holds occasional process monitoring meetings, during which it takes on the role of approving and discussing the proposals and collaborations, and reflecting on approaches, formats, methods, distribution and dissemination of the projects. We endeavour to facilitate and build productive and lasting relationships through our network of contacts and dissemination platform (PENSÃO website).
We nurture a transdisciplinary environment, with complete freedom of research, processes and working methods. We facilitate the creation of curated project relationships with external professionals and other institutions, allowing residents to broaden their thinking and project space, from expert guidance that fosters practical, innovative and collaborative approaches to creation, use of the institutions' space and facilities or partial or total funding of projects.
Residents have free access to our studio and facilities. They can seek advice and help from the colleagues, professionals, artists, designers and technicians with whom they share the space. Through the university's mediators and professors, we provide a network of contacts of renowned professionals and cultural and creative variety, who can help boost the authors, energise their projects and help them materialise and disseminate them.
